Invisalign: Your Smile is Your First Impression (Giveaway)

How many times have you met a person with a bashful grin, but not nearly a smile? It happens more often than we expect. Some people don't even realize they do it.

Self consciously, they know their smile isn't in the best shape and instead of giving you the full view, they hide it and put forth effort to project one of their best assets instead (humor, looks, intelligence, etc).

We all like to show our best selves, but not the parts of ourselves that aren't the best. It starts when we're young and our confidence builds.

As teenagers we didn't notice all of the things about us that were awkward (skinny legs, lanky arms, stringy hair...we all looked funny at some point), but right away we noticed crooked teeth and even worse, trying to correct them with braces. All of our other insecurities surfaced later.

I remember some of my classmate's orthodontists trying to pretty their braces up with colored rubber bands and a rainbow smile, but at the end of the day braces are braces.

Working on correcting a smile can be an uncomfortable period in life for teens. Fortunately, it doesn't have to be this way. Straightening teeth for a perfect smile without a mouth full of metal and rubber bands has been made possible by Invisalign.

Invisalign (also known as “clear braces”) are nearly invisible, removable appliances or “aligners” used to straighten teeth—alone for comprehensive orthodontic treatment or as a key component of restorative or cosmetic dental work. Invisalign is appropriate for treating adults and teens.

Since teens are already going through such an awkward stage in their lives, it makes sense to opt for corrective enhancements that don't add to the awkwardness. Just like adults, young people prefer contacts over glasses and the same goes for a mouth without metal. The embarrassment is not necessary today with the option of Invisalign Teen.

Read all about the advantages of Invisalign over braces here.

How Invisalign Teen Works

  • Invisalign Teen uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten teeth, without metal or wires. After detailed impressions are taken of the teeth, Align utilizes proprietary 3D computer imaging technology to map the patient’s complete treatment from start to finish. Teens wear each aligner for about two weeks. During this time, the aligners gradually move their teeth until they achieve the prescribed final position.
  • Patients typically visit their doctor once every six weeks or so to ensure treatment is progressing as planned, and to receive their next few sets of aligners.

Note: Every patient’s needs are different and there are many factors that determine the cost of Invisalign treatment. Often comparable in cost to traditional braces, Invisalign is covered by most insurance and financing options are frequently available

Since my husband, his mother, and his brother have all had metal braces, I often wonder if my girls will end up needing their teeth straightened as well. I don't wonder what kind of correction I will choose for them if they do need braces. The choice is simple. Invisalign will not interfere with the awkward stages in life my kids are sure to experience. That matters to me.

Stock Up on Strawberries and Prevent Mold with Vinegar

A few months ago, Dr Bill Sears tweeted a link to one of the most awesome tips I have ever read. He admitted to never having tried it, but was curious if any of his followers had.

At that time, I had no idea it was possible, but I knew I had to try the tip being that it was actually the solution to one of my biggest problems (other than making world peace, of course).

How to keep strawberries for days without them turning moldy.

I love to give my girls nice treats like smoothies, ice-cream, and yogurt topped with fruit, but I usually end up having to use a whole container of strawberries in two days, because by day three you can almost braid the hair that grows on them. Gross, I know.

Naturally I was excited about the link Dr. Sears provided. It led me to the Food Lush Blog where I learned the simple trick to keeping strawberries without them turning moldy was to use vinegar.

Yes folks. Vinegar!

It is so simple and it really does work. To prevent mold, all you need is a large bowl. Fill it with 10 parts water and one part vinegar. Dump a new package of berries in the bowl and give them a nice roll to make sure they're clean.

Note: Vinegar is the perfect solution to killing mold without harsh chemicals. The vinegar to water ratio is so low that the strawberries flavor will never be affected.

Now, (as shown above) I'm able to buy strawberries and keep them in my fridge looking and tasting just as fresh as the day I brought them home.

Enjoy!

Whoopsiee Can Give Parents Peace of Mind

When your little ones fall and bump their heads, Whoopsiee is all that you will hear and a soft landing is all they will feel.

As mothers we know that keeping kids free from bumps and bruises is not an easy thing to do. They're going to fall as they learn to stand and walk, and that's okay. We have all done it.

We fall plenty of times before we ever take our first step.

Well, for the cautious, using a product such as Whoopsiee, designed to protect children's heads from hard bumps, gives parents comfort as they let go of their children to allow them to explore.

"The Whoopsiee encourages worry free exploration and fosters independent development in curious, active babies."

The Whoopsiee was designed by Karen and Amanda Krezinski, and created by Karen's mom, Sue Adabody. It has a variety of patterns to choose from.

The standard Whoopsiee is reversible and comes as shown.

Use the AQUA DOT background and LIME DOT fish side for boys OR Use the LIME DOT background and AQUA DOT butterfly side for girls.

Or you have the option of designing your own reversible Whoopsiee from the fabric options available.

A Ban on Sidewalk Chalk! What's Next, Bubbles?

I find it hard to believe that sidewalk chalk is offensive, but in Denver, Colorado some neighbors have taken complaints to their neighborhood association claiming just that. All due to a precious 3 year old, Emerson Cohen, exploring her creativity with swirls and rainbows on the sidewalk.

"Offensive?"

Wow, I have heard it all now.

This is really surprising to me. I buy a lot of sidewalk chalk for my kids, as do many of you I'm sure. This is one the best and easiest ways for children to create art that is not too messy (no crayons on the walls, nor paint on their bodies). It's also very easy to clean up.

I think it's funny that we don't see neighborhoods all over the US complaining about problems with kids using sidewalk chalk. Most likely because it's not a real problem.

If you visit the Crayola website, they provide clear directions on how to remove sidewalk chalk artwork when finished. It's not hard at all.

I have only had to spray the chalk drawings with a hose myself and other times the rain has washed it away if I left the artwork there.

Sidewalk chalk comes in a variety of colors and brands, and you can buy it at just about any store where toys and art supplies are sold.

Sarah Cohen, Emerson's mother told CBS “It’s definitely better than video games.” I agree with her 100 percent on that. “It’s a simple pleasure for her.”

Since the offending little girl's family lives in a courtyard, I understand that the neighbors may not want to see artwork all over the common areas of their neighborhood left there all day, but asking the mom to remove the art before her daughter goes in for naps or the evening would be a better solution.

Compromising and agreeing to use a single location like a 2-3 squares of concrete in front of the Cohen family's own home instead of any other areas is even reasonable.

It's summer. Kids want to be outside and they should be. Small children can't go far and they don't have as many options as the older kids. It's washable sidewalk chalk folks, not bottle rockets!

Why can't these neighbors just get along? I'm guessing someone has a problem with Emerson's family, not the art at all.

Ridiculous!

Happy Father's Day to Dads That Have All the Answers

When I was a kid I asked a million questions. I don't think I ever shut up. Hence the name The Chatty Momma today.

I was always fascinated at my dad having all the answers. No matter what I never recall him saying "I don't know."

Today, I know some of those answers could've been made up, but to me he was the smartest man on the planet.

Who was the man that taught you everything you know (or don't)?

Happy Father's Day!
