Homemade Lava Lamps Kids Can Make at Home (Video)

Recently, my girls and I decided to have fun making homemade lava lamps together. This science project is one of many in a book for kids that we are currently using to learn about physics.

The purpose of this lesson is to teach the kids about density, volume, and molecules (my kids are obsessed with molecules right now).

It's not hard, and you don't need much to have a lot of fun. You'll find the supplies right in your pantry.

Grab your kids and the following items:

  • Empty 2 liter bottle
  • Bottle of vegetable oil
  • Water
  • Liquid food coloring
  • Plastic cup
  • Spoon
  • Funnel (optional)

Now, let's get started!

Wasn't that easy and fun? Stay posted for our next science project coming soon...

This looks AMAZING! WE must try it - we do "harry potter" magic experiments all the time so we are so adding this to our list. Thanks! xoxo

The kids will definitely get a kick out of this. I sure did. I hope you post your experiment. I'd love to see others. We'll be doing another cool experiment this week that kids really enjoy with vegetables (celery) and dye. Come back and check it out!
