Change The World - Teach Kids To Recycle And They Will! & Scott Naturals Giveaway (CLOSED)

I'll never forget the day my daughter Isabella started talking about recycling. She was only 2 years old.

She was so excited and talked about "plastics." It was really cute, but for a moment I was confused.

I thought, "Where in the world did she learn about recycling?"

Well, to make a long story short, the Nick Jr. channel (formally Noggin), has a sweet character you may or may not know, named Moose A. Moose.

Moose and his little friend, a bird named Zee, entertain and teach preschool aged children songs and things about the world during commercial breaks. Fortunately, one of the lessons he introduced was recycling, because my husband and I had not.

Bella really took to it and many days while we were at work, she and my dad would go on outings to recycle.

She loved recycling!

At only 2 years old, she had the heart to be kind to the environment. She was helping to "save the world" one recycling trip at a time. She really looked forward to those trips, all because she learned about what recycling is and how to do it. She was also excited to have my dad teaching her and taking her along with him.

Isn't that awesome?

Children remember what they have been taught, and they model what they have seen. Teaching them to recycle can change the world.

Did you know that:

  • Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for three hours -- or the equivalent of a half a gallon of gasoline.
  • If you had a 15-year-old tree and made it into paper grocery bags, you'd get about 700 of them. A busy supermarket could use all of them in under an hour! This means in one year, one supermarket can go through over 6 million paper bags! Imagine how many supermarkets there are just in the United States!!!
  • Americans throw away 25,000,000,000 Styrofoam coffee cups every year.

Getting Kids Outdoors & Scott Naturals Giveaway (CLOSED)

The great outdoors is nature's playground.

It's FREE, it's FUN, and it's FOR EVERYONE!

Unfortunately, times have changed and people aren't getting out as much as they used to and it's affecting our kids.

FACT: The negative impact of decreased time outdoors includes a doubling of the childhood obesity rate.

This makes supporting the National Wildlife Federation so important. They encourage kids to....

It's Not About You, It's All About ME!

I basically got the shock of my life this week that came out of nowhere.

Well, maybe not "nowhere" but definitely not from someplace I was expecting. At least not yet.

Just as Gabriella, my 19 month old daughter, was celebrating over a slideshow of my personal photos, Isabella, my four year old daughter, screamed, "No, it's not about you. It's all about ME!"

Gasp...

I was shocked. I thought, "How old is this child?"

She was not happy, hissing, and rolling her eyes.

Pre-PMS!

She proceeded to tell me that she didn't like my pictures, because she only likes pictures with her in them and that EVERYTHING is and must be about her and her only!

WOW...she's only 4! (I think)

We've fast-forwarded 10 years already. I thought these things were said in middle school during the hormonal phase. I guess not.

I always thought we'd be besties!

Are we frenemies?LOL

It's like I drank from the Fountain of Youth!

VeggieTales®: 'Twas the Night Before Easter Review

Recently I had the opportunity to review VeggieTales®: 'Twas the Night Before Easter with my two girls, and it has become a new household favorite.

Isabella and Gabriella absolutely love it!

They have become very fond of VeggieTales® over the past few months, but normally only want to watch their favorite episode, Sweetpea Beauty.

'Twas the Night Before Easter is such a great story that the girls have been playing it over and over again.

I happen to love the DVD myself. It's nice to hear the voice of former American Idol contestant, Melinda Doolittle, as the voice of Cassie Cassava. I have the song lyrics, "When I think about Easter, I think about God's love" in my head all day.

The music is so catchy!

DVD Synopsis

It’s Easter time in Crisper County and cable news reporter Marlee Meade is hunting for a way to help others. She cooks up a plan to save the old theater with a cast of costume-clad townies, massive props and a 20-foot robot rabbit to perform “Up With Bunnies.” Now there’s only one thing missing – the star of the show! When word spreads that singing sensation Cassie Cassava (Melinda Doolittle) is arriving to perform in her hometown church’s Easter service, Marlee schemes to steal the starlet for her own pageant! But when things go haywire, will it be curtains for Marlee’s dreams – or will she discover the true meaning of Easter and what helping others is really all about?

“Eggs-tra” Bonus Features:
  • Audio Commentary
  • “The Hopperena” Silly Songs Sing-Along
  • Behind the voice of “Cassie” with Melinda Doolittle
  • Larry’s backstage pass to “VeggieTales Live!”
  • “Easter Cards” Interactive Matching Game

Want to learn a Silly Song? Watch “The Hopperena” on YouTube. Also preview it before you buy it, by checking out the VeggieTales®: ‘Twas The Night Before Easter Trailer.

FRESCHETTA By The Slice Review & Giveaway (CLOSED)

There are so many days and hours in a week, but I never seem to have time to get everything done.

With two small children, I am constantly getting pulled in opposite directions and almost always I get pulled away entirely from my schedule for the day.

As a result, I may not have time to prepare my own lunch the way I wanted to, or dinner ingredients are still sitting on the countertop when hubby comes home.

Normally when this happens (which is often), either he or I will declare...

"Pizza Night!"

I love pizza and so does he, so our local pizzerias stay on "speed dial."

The problem with this happening so frequently is the cost. We end up spending $30-$35 on dinner. We rationalize it and say, "Oh we can eat leftovers for lunch," but I rarely ever do. For $35, I'd rather go to Ruby Tuesday!

It's a waste of too much money, too often.

So, my solution to this problem is serving delicious pizzas from FRESCHETTA. I love having FRESCHETTA pizza for dinner, because they are so tasty and quick to make.

Now, I can also buy FRESCHETTA By The Slice, and never worry about anything preventing me from preparing a delicious lunch for myself. It's great, because I don't have to eat peanut butter and jelly with the kids either!

It's a Win-Win situation!

FRESCHETTA By The Slice is available in:

  • BBQ Recipe Chicken
  • Vegetable Medley
  • Chicken, Spinach, & Mushroom
  • Six Cheese Medley

I am a mom with a limited amount of time, but I deserve to enjoy a real meal. With FRESCHETTA By The Slice, I get to do just that.

You can too!

Win my giveaway and be treated with a Free FRESCHETTA By The Slice pizza, and also receive the 3 piece FRESCHETTA food storage set below.

Playdates and (Homemade) Fingerpaint

This week I took the girls to a well needed playdate. It's been so cold out that we haven't been meeting up as much as we used to, so we took the opportunity during the warm weather on Monday to go to a finger painting playdate.

My girls had so much fun!

Our host was very creative and shared her recipe for homemade finger paint with us to create at home. (Thanks, Lisa!)

Try creating paint for your kids at home. It's safe, easy, and not a it too messy! It's perfect for a rainy day activity.

You will need:

1 cup flour
2 tablespoons salt
Saucepan
1 1/2 cups cold water
Wire whisk or eggbeater
1 1/4 cups hot water
Food coloring or tempera paint

Directions:

Put flour and salt in saucepan.
Add cold water and beat with whisk or eggbeater until smooth.
Add hot water and boil until mixture is thick.
Beat again until smooth.
Color as desired with food coloring or powdered tempera paint.
Store covered in refrigerator.

*Make this a couple of hours before you plan to use it so that it can cool down before the kids use it.

Kids, Go ahead and make a mess...

"Your mother won't mind at all if you do!"
