Follow Friday Flashback

Today, I wanted to do a flashback post to this time last year.

I was pregnant, suffering from severe hyperemesis gravidarum, and had
at this time been on bed-rest since March.

I had a car accident in the rain a few weeks prior and I was battling
preterm labor along with the uncertainty of what "real" contractions
vs "Braxton Hicks" contractions felt like.

Well, I received a lot of love and support from my Twitter friends and
cool experts who support women in my situation everyday.

Today, I want to recognize some by name!

A special Follow Friday and "thanks" to:

  • @KeepEmCookin
  • @MamasOnBedrest
  • @AoGF
  • @RobinPregnancy

This list will grow today, stay posted for more!

BABYCENTER® LAUNCHES
BABYCENTER® MY PREGNANCY TODAY
APPLICATION FOR IPHONE® and IPOD TOUCH®

60 Percent of Expectant Moms Want App to Track Pregnancy

(San Francisco) – August 24, 2010 – BabyCenter®, moms’ most trusted parenting and pregnancy site, today announced the launch of the BabyCenter® My Pregnancy Today application for iPhone and iPod touch.

This new, free application guides expectant moms through their pregnancy journey, offering award-winning, medically reviewed health content; advice from obstetricians, midwives, nutritionists, and other experts; daily activities and reminders; and conversation and connection with other moms-to-be in BabyCenter’s community. The BabyCenter® My Pregnancy Today application is now available at www.babycenter.com/iphone-pregnancy-download.

According to a recent BabyCenter poll, 60 percent of expectant moms want an application to track their pregnancy. Additionally, BabyCenter revealed the use of technology among moms has drastically increased in just a few years, with 92 percent of moms saying they take their cell phone/smart phone everywhere. Nearly 50 percent are interested in technology that empowers them to be better moms and use technology to manage day-to-day activities.

“The BabyCenter® My Pregnancy Today app is everything that millions of women love about BabyCenter right in their purse,” says Linda Murray, BabyCenter editor-in-chief. “Mobile phones are changing the way women get their pregnancy and parenting information, and we want to make sure an expecting mom has all the answers she needs right at her side at all times. Our new app turns your iPhone into an expert guide for your exact date of pregnancy, making it that much easier to enjoy the rich, personal experience that is the journey of new motherhood.”

Application features include:

  • Your pregnancy, day by day: BabyCenter’s renowned weekly pregnancy experience now updated and expanded into a daily snapshot of your baby’s development.

  • Fetal development images: Our one-of-kind, detailed weekly illustrations developed by expert medical illustrators.

  • Pregnancy checklist: An interactive to-do list is filled with activities and reminders to keep you on track with decisions, appointments, and more.

The BabyCenter® My Pregnancy Today application is the latest innovative BabyCenter mobile program designed to provide the modern mom with trusted advice and friendship that's remarkably right for her needs, and the first of its kind that will launch worldwide. Additionally, BabyCenter is currently participating in a number of maternal health projects around the globe including text4baby in the United States, collaboration with the Grameen Foundation in rural Ghana, and a new mobile program in India in an effort to reach underserved women and empower them to take control over their own health by implementing positive behavior changes.

A Playdate with Mr. Knick Knack

This week, I took the girls to a sweet first time playdate with new friends at the town center, and we watched the Mr. Knick Knack performance.

It was such a wonderful way to get the girls out of the house, meet new friends, and dance and sing!

Bella enjoyed the show so much, dancing and following Mr. Knick Knack as he walked around, and Gabby just clapped and coo-sang.

Our playdate guests were Gypsy (pictured above) and her sister Poet. Gypsy was front row and center the whole show, dancing and bouncing along behind Mr. Knick Knack as well.

The best part about this playdate to see Mr. Knick Knack, was that this was the first time that Bella, Gypsy, Gabby and Poet had ever met.

Our playdates are the daughters of one of my grade school girlfriends who I was meeting up with as well. What an awesome reunion for us. We hadn't seen each other since high school and now here we are with two little girls of our own to introduce to each other.

What made the playdate the best is that there was no pressure on the girls to gel. It just happened. They were all so crazy about the performance and the dancing and singing with all of the other children. They took right to each other.

They took right to Mr. Knick Knack as well!

"A Princess Greeting"

Dear Professional SAHMs: Do I get a nap too?

Let me just preface by saying, I clocked out from the corporate clock just three weeks ago and I'm soooooooooooo worn out (SAHM: Day 3), and I'm wondering if I get a nap too?

Before you answer, visualize this:

  • Dishes in the sink,

  • Crumbs in the carpet,

  • Boxes on the stairs,

  • Nothing on the stove for supper,

Oh, and last but not least:

  • My eyes are shutting. Really shutting, and I have yet to shower!

Just checking and all, because I have no idea what the heck I'm doing. Although, I have managed to get the girls to nap today.

Thank you for your professional advice. YOU are greatly appreciated!

Signed,

The Chatty Momma
(An amateur SAHM)
