Did you know that once your baby is born it is time to start cleaning her gums?
It was at 10 months that my first daughter, Isabella, cut her first tooth, and 11 months when I took her to her first dentist appointment and she received her first toothbrush.
The dentist had nothing but good things to say about the condition of her teeth and that was great to me, but that is not the case for every child. I wasn't really even aware of the potential danger babies teeth face as soon as they erupt. Most parents aren't.
There is a serious problem many young children suffer from, called Baby Bottle Tooth Decay or Early Childhood Caries (cavities)
Your baby's teeth are at risk as soon as they appear. Tooth decay is caused by bacteria from the mother or caregiver's mouth to the baby or from prolonged exposure to liquids that contain sugar settling on the teeth.
Created by practicing dentists and parents themselves, Dr. Grace Lo and Dr Jonathan Korn, Tooth Tissues are disposable textured dental wipes specially designed to help remove plaque from your baby and to toddler's teeth and gums. Tooth Tissues are perfect for busy new parents eager to get their child off to a healthy start. They are 99% natural and formulated with xylitol - a natural cavity fighter. They are flouride and paraben free.
"Tooth Tissues were created for our children to be safe, effective, and easy to use for our parents."
Dr. Grace and Dr. Jon
Using the Tooth Tissues with my daughter, Gabriella, was great. She took to them immediately, and wanted to keep brushing with them when I was finished. The wipes were very soft, but textured and they were gentle enough not to bother baby's gums.
I really enjoyed using the wipes with my baby, because she has very sensitive gums as she is still teething, and it seems as though an actual toothbrush with bristles could irritate her mouth.
Great advice I read for keeping your child's teeth healthy, from the American Dental Association is:
Begin cleaning the baby's mouth during the first few days after birth. After every feeding, wipe the baby's gums with a clean gauze pad. This removes plaque (a sticky film of bacteria) and residual food that can harm erupting teeth.

My mother's friend had a baby with baby bottle mouth. They capped all of her teeth in silver. It was horrible!
November 13, 2010 at 3:30 AMWHy? She put the baby to bed every nap and every night with a bottle of Kool-aid? Seriously!
So sad how much anxiety that baby suffered having it all done. She was too small to sedate for a non-life-threatening procedure.
Back in the day, we had our kids' baby teeth sealed. Then perms. Neither has a cavity to this day!
